Rebeca’s journey to Qualified Person (QP) status

Having heard positive things about RSSL’s QP training programme from her colleagues, Rebeca signed up for what proved to be a valuable learning experience. Here, she shares her journey to viva success.

"The training journey with RSSL was great. I was able to meet new people, improve skills I already had and learn new ones. The modules align perfectly with the study guide and are presented in a way that is easy to understand."

The logical next step in my career

My decision to become a Qualified Person felt like the logical next step in my career. Quality safety and efficiency have always been at the forefront of everything I do, so having the opportunity to improve my knowledge and work directly in batch certification felt like a privilege.

That’s not to say it was easy. There were many challenges along the way, not least ensuring I kept a good work/life balance and remained committed to achieving my goal. Keeping the big picture in mind certainly helped motivate me, particularly when came to revision in the run up to the viva.

But I think there’s a lot you can do to make your life easier before the final stage. For instance, I would advise everyone to start with a gap analysis against the study guide and organise training modules according to your needs. RSSL posts an online calendar on its website, which I found a big help.

I would also recommend starting your application early, it’s a lengthy process so you want to make sure you’re closing any gaps in your experience throughout the training programme. Once you get into the course detail, focus on creating your own summary notes and live and breathe your learnings. If you also try to apply as much as you can in your day-to-day job, that will help reinforce the relevance of the content.

Most importantly, practise, practise, practise – the more viva mocks you can squeeze in the better. Although it’s impossible to be an expert on every single item in the study guide, developing the ability to think on your feet is crucial - which is why I found RSSL’s viva preparation day so valuable. The 5.5 hour session gives you exclusive one-to-one time with a QP to go through mock vivas and really hone in on any areas of weakness. Plus, I gained some valuable tips on how to improve the structure of my answers and deal with nerves on the day.
